“The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection.” – Thomas Paine
She sits crying in the parking lot as the engine of her Lexus continues to run. Tears streaming down the side of her face as she repetitively hits the steering wheel several times, I can’t help but wonder what in the world has this young girl so distraught. Moments pass by, she yells into her iphone and then slowly bows her head in the palm of her hands. The conversation is over, the tears continue, she drops the phone, slumps down and cuts off the engine. She’s overwhelmed by it all.
That’s life for the most part isn’t it? We slug through it all, fight a good fight, yet every now and then it gets to be too much for us to handle. No matter how much of a brave face we paint on for the world, how outwardly positive we appear to be, we have our challenges that can become too much.
A few of us are lucky enough to have friends we can run to for guidance, a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear. Able to vent, shed tears, not be judged and let it all go. A few of us are lucky, but many suffer in silence never able to release and get it all off our chest.
Like this young girl on a gloomy day though, we eventually pull it together, wipe the tears away and move on with our life. We sing our favorite songs, watch our favorite comedy, think of better times and find peace in “this too shall pass!”
A melt down, overflowing of emotions, a few deep breaths, composure and we move on with our day. Brave enough to face the world and take on the next challenge waiting for us a few minutes, days, weeks and moments away.
Now Your Turn…
